Latest OCZ Vector which is sleekly
designed to mainstream high performance enthusiasts, providing OCZ
with a near end-to-end in house services for a reliable user
experience. The Vector brings burst sequential read and writes of
550MB/s and 530MB/s to the table. Also, with random read and write
IOPS of 100,000 and 95,000 respectively.
OCZ named this scale of performance as
the fastest sustained computing experience. Brings Indilinx who is
the designer of the Barefoot controller and holder of 20 SSD-related
parents and tacked on PLX technology. The OCZ feels its growth with
the SSD business at large and have realized that investing in IP is
just the only way to stay competitive. The Vector is one of the first
SSD to feature the Barefoot controller which can finally produce
complete package of SSDs for both the client and enterprise spaces.
By owning the controller and firmware provides OCZ, a better
competitive positioning from a support and reliability standpoint.
The early versions of Vector were also
distributed to beta users and storage review was a member. It also
undergoes a burn-in procedure to flush out all the issues prior to
shipments which are leading to fewer returns and DOA issues. OCZ is
also making changes to their firmware protocol which they are not
beholden to an external controller company. All the firmware updates
will undergoes a longer validation cycle which is likely be much less
frequent than what has all been the case historically with
SandForce-based SSDs.
